  1. Limitation

Weissenborn ~ made by Paddy Burgin, Wellington NZ

tuned: C#,G#, C#, G#, B, C#
this was the first piece I composed for this album. like most of the things I write, it built very slowly over several months(or more)

recorded 4:12.23

     2. Rumination:
Taylor  12 string ~ Raised Nut, Lapstyle

Towner Twelve Tuning:
CC, Eb/G, Bb/C, F/D, A/G, DD

recorded 12.15.23

TTT= Towner Twelve Tuning. I have never met or spoken with Ralph Towner…..allegedly, he often tunes his 12 string guitars with this “unique” tuning of his own creation. “Normally” a 12 string is tuned in courses/pairs, with each string being the same note, sometimes an octave apart. tuning strings 5-2 to 8 different notes is a curious adventure…….it took quite awhile to be able to play anything that remotely sounded like music in this tuning. I did a variation of this tuning on track 4 Cultivation, tuning the top two strings to C.

3. Deviation -  Doubleneck Weissenborn, also made by  Paddy Burgin, Wellington NZ

neck one C, G, C, F# A, C

neck two (outside neck) D, G, D, G, Bb, D
This piece is an experiment in attempting to arrange Makam ideas for lap style guitar. The first part of the piece starts in Makam Nikriz, and then modulates to Nahawand ……and then eventually transitions back in to Nikriz again……perhaps you can hear the shifts in mood……
*(there is a section which starts around 6:40 which is one of my most favoritest things I have ever recorded). “Someday” i hope to do a whole album of this type of thing……

recorded 4.26.23

4. Cultivation - Taylor 12 String 12:25

Towner Twelve Tuning//Thayeriation:
this is my own variation on the tuning above(#2 Rumination) lowering the first course of strings to CC ie the Root Note(Sa) give me something to use as a drone on top.

CC, Eb/G, Bb/C, F/D, A/G, CC

recorded 2.24.24

5. Celebration - Doubleneck Weissenborn, also made by  Paddy Burgin, Wellington NZ

Neck One: C, G, C, F, G, C
Neck Two: D, F#, D, F# , A , D (outside neck)

*(hidden in plain sight esoterica: at around 9:40ish I switched from playing with steel slide bar to a glass bottleneck……I hope you enJOY the tonal shift…..which goes for about 9o seconds and ends at 11:04 ish)
